The Mayfield attachment is a 3-pin head immobilization device that’s used in neurosurgery to hold a patient’s head and neck in a specific position:Â
- Mayfield skull clamp: Used in cranial and cervical neurosurgical procedures, as well as spinal surgery. It’s used to provide rigid fixation when intra-operative CT or MR imaging is needed.Â
- Mayfield Radiolucent Disposable Skull Pins:Â Used with the skull clamp.Â
- Mayfield 2 Base Unit: Used to support a patient during diagnostic exams and surgical procedures. It’s used when a rigid support is needed between the surgical table and headrest or skull clamp.Â
The Mayfield attachment can cause complications, including:Â Vascular injury, Skull fractures, Lacerations, Air embolisms, and Epidural hematoma.Â
