Description
It measures how much air you breathe in, how much you breathe out and how quickly you breathe out. Healthcare professionals use spirometry to diagnose asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other conditions that affect the ability to breath
To use a digital spirometer, you can:Â
- Take a deep breath in through your noseÂ
- Place the mouthpiece on top of your tongue with your teeth and lips around itÂ
- Exhale as hard and as fast as you can for as long as you canÂ
- Repeat these steps two more timesÂ
The spirometer will track your best attempt and calculate your results automatically. You should not use a reading if your breath was disrupted by a cough.Â
